Kaavya Sanje,
An evening of poetry
Kaavya Sanje
KAAVYA in Kannada language means poetic narrations, epics in the form of poetry that involve oral narratives and storytelling. SANJE means evening. Kaavya Sanje, an evening of poetry, intends to narrate contemporary socio-political tales using poetry as the medium of expression.
Kaavya Sanje speaks of peace, love, kinship, affection, nature, and their relationships and seeks healing through poetry of the wounds of violence that we encounter every day in our society. Kaavya Sanje was initiated by me (a Kannada poet Mamta Sagar) in 2013 in Bengaluru and later registered as a trust in January 2019. It was started in order to connect young Kannada poets within and beyond Kannada language realms. This evolved as a multilingual community poetry event curated by me to connect people beyond all barriers through poetry.
Today, the Kannada, the non-Kannada and also the not so Kannada communities find a restful shade at Kaavya Sanje. Poetry is a compelling tool for Kaavya Sanje to connect with communities, to voice socio-political concerns and to untether the much urgent social changes. An eclectic range of poems are written, composed, translated, presented and performed here. Poets find their voices and poems find their audiences under Kaavya Sanje curations.
